A Post-Summer Potpourri
with S. Blake Duncan, oboe
Terry Maher, bassoon
Margaret Jones, violin
Barbara Hedlund, cello

Zoltán Kodály: Summer Evening
Joseph Haydn: Sinfonia Concertante
for Oboe, Bassoon, Violin & Cello
Jean Sibelius: Valse Triste
Dmitri Shostakovich:

Incidental Music for Hamlet

The end of September is still early enough
for us to remember the heat of summer, and
Kodály’s early atmospheric work for small
orchestra is the perfect gentle stimulant.

Haydn’s gratifying music for four soloists will feature principal
players from the Ensemble, followed by Sibelius’ touching “Sad Waltz,”
complete with video accompaniment. Shostakovich’s music for
Shakespeare’s play provides a rousing conclusion.
