Celebrating Mendelssohn at 200
with Mark Moore, tuba

Antonín Dvorák: Wind Serenade
Ralph Vaughan Williams: Tuba Concerto
Felix Mendelssohn: Symphony No. 3 “Scottish”

Moore

Felix Mendelssohn turns 200 in 2009, and we’ll celebrate
with the richest of the composer’s five symphonies, inspired
by vivid memories of his travels through the British Isles. We
extend the British theme with Vaughan Williams’ very Englishsounding
concerto for bass tuba, featuring the University of
Illinois’ longtime professor of tuba, Mark Moore. Dvorák’s
Wind Serenade was written in the same year as his Slavonic
Dances. Brahms, for one, was so impressed with the work that
he said, “A more lovely, refreshing impression of real, rich
and charming creative talent you can’t easily have.”
We think you'll agree!
